Licences
Background
A Licence defines the terms and conditions for the use of data. You can create three types of Licence:
- External link: Provide a link to an external page with terms of use. Use links, for example, when you want to licence your resources using standardised licences, such as Creative Commons.
- Inline text: Write the Terms and Conditions of use directly in the application form. The applicant will see this as normal text within the application form.
- Attachment: Upload a downloadable file that defines the Terms and Conditions for users.
Licences are immutable and optional
Licences are not mandatory for creating catalogue items within CADRE and should only
be used if users need to adhere to a set of Terms and Conditions when being given access.
Furthermore, once you create a Licence, you cannot edit it. If you wish to update your
Licence, you must archive your original Licence and create a new one.
Licence Creation Prerequisites
Ensure that an Organisation is created.
If you attempt to create a Licence as an owner without first creating an Organisation,
you will receive an error indicating that no Organisations exist, and you will not be
able to create a Licence.
If you are a 'Platform Owner' and are unsure how to create an Organisation, follow the
Creating New
Organisations guide for assistance.
